The most disappointing game of the year!
Customer Rating:

As a huge fan of the old ALIEN and Predator games (which were actually good and interesting games) i have to say that this game was a huge disappointment.
Do not buy this game for PC if you expect a nice game with a long single player experience and fastpaced multiplayer action - it will present you none of those features. Even though they have released a few patches, the major problems still exsist. I will list a few things that make this game such a huge disaster:
Game (singleplayer):
- linear gameplay (its just moving from point A to B)
- too short (you can finish all of the three single player games in 2 - 3 hours)
- the characters are chessy and uninteresting
- very flawed level design (all 3 species go through the same levels again and again...)
- AI of the characters is not really challenging
- stupid system of stealth attacks
Game (multiplayer):
- no fast-paced action (because of the slow movements of the marines and predators)
- bad multiplayer menu-design
- not enough maps to play, all of them are just environments from the single player game
- no Alien, marine or predator classes anymore like in the previous game
ALIEN:
- the ALIEN controls are bad and you cant control the creature on your own most of the time
- the ALIEN is not able to pounce at its victims anymore
MARINE:
- the humans are too slow
- you cant crouch (i know it sounds like a joke, but its true)
- the marines can jump, but it it not useful in the game at all
- the flamethrower is not a useful weapon in multiplayer
- the marine has only 6 weapons he can choose from
- you can only carry 3 weapons at the same time
PREDATOR:
- the predator cant crouch (like the marine)
- the movements are slow like the human characters
- there are only 5 Predator weapons in this game you can choose from (remember the last ALIEN vs Predator game, where the predator had 8 weapons)
- you have only 2 vision modes
I could go on with the list for hours....
My final verdict: DO NOT BUY this game unless you have plenty of money for sega and rebellion left...
Xenomorph Easy, Zero Checkpoints + Marine/Predator Campaigns = Frustrating.
Customer Rating:

Fun : 5/5 Stars
Graphics : 5/5 stars
Story : 5/5
Gameplay 2/5
Mapping 3/5
Difficulty 6/5
Multilayer(Xbox live) 4/5
Let me say a synopsis;
Xenomorph : Easy as hell, no challenge at all. FUN FUN FUN.
Marine : Frustrating. In the marine campaign you die at point blank range of killing a xenomorph. The game has lost one star because of the lack of armor from the previous game that could have substituted as protection against the Xenomorphs molecular acid at point blank. Also why use flares instead of the conventional flashlight? Also the game's Zero Checkpoints on Nightmare Difficulty is stupid and unnecessary. Stupid being that it builds way too much tension. Also for those of you who don't know Zero Checkpoints means it means that if you die you start over from point A of the level, saves are also disabled in the Nightmare. The game-play requires way to much "Hit-and-run" tactics and accuracy. Which makes the Marine Campaign unfun. But predator.
Predator : Easy/Frustrating. The marines are easy as hell, Pop stealth get behind them. Fire your laser, Distract. Easy. The XenoMorph's however are Easy/frustrating depending on the difficulty. At the beginning of the level you have two claws as melee. With Practice you can knock them on the ground, grab and lay a finishing move on them which equals Fun. The xenomorphs's are a pain however when on Hard or Nightmare difficulty. Being that you can never knock them down for a finishing move EVER. There is really a lot of strategy to beat them on at the first 3/6 Levels. The game however gets Easier once you get the Disc blade thing, and the spear. Which you can one shot them. Also you don't need to worry about dieing at point blank range from the Xeno's Molecular acid because of the Predator's armor, which makes the predator more fun then the marine campaign.
Consensus: The gameplay is Fun/Easy/Challenging for the most part. But for the Marine Campaign Sega could have tried harder with the mapping and gameplay.
Another Poor Console Port and Missed Opportunity

Back in the day when game publishers actually made games for specific platforms that took full advantage of their features and capabilities Aliens vs Predator 2 for the PC released almost ten years ago was the best of the genre, hands-down. It captured all the tension, terror and excitement of the movies featuring the Aliens and the Predator with logical use of mouse and keyboard for the full range of movement each species was capable of. And the story line wasn't half bad either.
Fast forward to the present. The PC gaming genre is infested with horribly broken and poorly executed console ports with clumsy controls, limited player movement, obnoxious checkpoint save systems. Aliens vs. Predator falls into this category.
Sure the DX11 visuals look good (I have a Radeon 5870, 3GHz Core 2 Duo Rig, 4GB RAM, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit). But that's all the game has going for it. After spending HOURS downloading a massive patch through Steam, the game is still full of bugs. After multiple re-installs, I couldn't pick up weapons. Or the game would freeze. The Marine's movement is severely crippled compared to Aliens vs Predator 2. The game falls back on the oldest and lamest trick in the book of endlessly respawning enemies to drive the player from one linear and boring level to the next.
With all the advanced PC technology available today, this game could have easily outdone AvP 2 with a little effort from Rebellion. It's a shame games like Aliens vs. Predator are thrown together and dumped on the market to make a fast buck. All style and bugs--no substance.
