Personal Trainer: Cooking brings gourmet cooking from around the globe to your Nintendo DS. It features a DS Chef, your own private cooking instructor who talks you through 245+ recipes from over 30 countries worldwide. It's a combination of interactive cookbook and live cooking demonstration that'll have you cooking like a pro, even if you've never lifted a ladle before. With so many recipes, you can find something new and tasty to make no matter what you're in the mood for. You can search a map by country to find regional dishes or select options for low-calorie foods, specific ingredients or short cooking times. Each recipe contains step-by-step directions and photos to make it possible to prepare dishes you've never tried before. Use the stylus or simple voice commands to "turn the page." Hands covered in batter? Keep your DS clean using voice commands to continue to the next page, repeat a step, go back, and more. A tap of the touch screen lets you adjust the serving size automatically, and users can write and save cooking notes, just as they would in a paper recipe book. Recipes include photos of the dish as well as instructional videos on how to perform different cooking techniques, such as how to chop an onion or clean a fish. Users can access a handy reference function to explain unfamiliar terms and cooking techniques when they appear. The software includes a timer and calculator, as well as a search function to help you find what you're looking for. Cooking Guide also includes an ingredient checklist to use as a shopping list. Just put a ? mark next to the items you need and bring your Nintendo DS to the grocery store. You and the Chef will collaborate on a wide variety of recipes, with videos of techniques, explanations of ingredients, and expert advice. Even though I am a good cook, and enjoy cooking healthy meals every day, I felt i wanted to try something different. I can not buy cookbooks, because am allergic to dust, so love e-books and so forth; this little game has turned out to be a gem! it sorts the recipes either by ingredients, by country, all different ways, and, it gives voice instructions! Even my son, with autism, learned to COMPLETELY INDEPENDENTLY cook a pasta dish, and it came out awesome! I recommend this to EVERYONE!

I watched the video at the Nintendo site of a couple making a Japanese style meal while following the instructions. The first two things they did were entirely incorrect and they did not follow the images. One: washing the rice. They only used a strainer while the video showed a bowl under the strainer. This is important because if you don't swish the rice around in a bowl you are not really washing the rice. These people were simply blank. Then the cutting of a cucumber where the instructions were to remove the seeds. The poor girl tried to do it with the tip of her knife. This is not only inelegant but not successful. There were no instructions to use a spoon. After that I could not watch anymore. The instructions might have made these people happy since ignorance is bliss. Don't waste your money on this. Hire a chef to show you some basics. Ask them to show you how to wash rice and why you wash it. Good luck.

Nice little cookbook

It has a great variety of recipes from a great variety of regions. It is easy to use and easy to search for recipes and cooking tips. It's easy to save favorites to get quick access to them and you can save a recipe in the middle of instruction to come back to later.

I would have liked more recipes, but overall there is a nice variety of good recipes. Give it a try!

I was really disappointed on this DS card. Most of the recipes included I can't or do not eat. And it doesn't give you the opportunity to add or edit recipes. The shopping list is complicated. And some of the ingredients I didn't know.

If you have any interest in learning how to cook, this is the best way to do it aside from classes.
