Was not what I wanted in a game

This game was such a disappointment for me. I think I was looking for that NFS: Most wanted feel and ended up with this. It actually is a good game but I think a bit below my age bracket, 10 year olds should love this. The game feels so much like one of those cheap video games that you'd see in the corner of arcade collecting dust. The graphics are kind of ok-ish. Story, well before I drag this out. I don't put down the game because it's just my experience but if you can't get most wanted or carbon to buy, then don't waste your time.

I purchased NFS:U at gamestop, used. I'm glad i didn't get suckered into buying it full retail as I'm am a fan of NFS since the first one came out. I had read some reviews beforehand and knew ahead of time that their were some bugs and a frame rate problem in the game that didn't have a huge effect on game play. When i began to play it i noticed a lot more then the reviews pointed at. Things like car selecting have to be repeated because your selection wouldn't take to street mode. Or simply poor excuse of an AI controlling the cops and the other racing AI.

Skip this game, save your money. Unless your doing a research paper on sub par video game product uncorrected by the manufacturers.

Extremely Unrealistic

Bought This After Hearing Some Good Things About It But Upon Playing It I Dont Know What They Were Talking About. The Good Thing Is Free Roam Is Back (Better Than Pro Street) But Its So Unrealistic To Play. No Matter What Car You Seem To Drive Its A Feather-Weight. I Love Taking Out Cars While I Race (Its Fun Plus It Puts Ya A Little Further Behind To Make Things More Interesting) But Here You Can Hit And Cars Rear Panel And You Go Flying Off To The Side. There Are Some Fun Parts But The Racing Is So Unrealistic I Gave Up On It.

Good for the current price

Well I finally had to break down and get this game when they dropped the price tag. The game is actually better than what most reviews lead you to believe. I am a long-time NFS fan dating way back to NFS on the computer. Undercover by no means is better than Underground 1/2, but it's still worth a play-through. The music is pretty good, the graphics are decent although could be better on the PS3, gameplay is enjoyable, and the cars are cool. Car customization is seriously toned down from what we are used to, but at least there are some features to personalize your car at least a little to "make it your own". I am a few hours into it and am 22% complete, so it doesn't look like it will take too long to complete the storyline. If you enjoyed Most Wanted and don't mind fewer customizing options for your car, then you will more than likely like this game for the current bargin price; however, if you want more of a challenge then get Most Wanted. =)

Doesn't Measure up to "NFS Hot Pursuit"

I love a challenging racing game. Graphics are important, challenging tracks, stiff competition, realistic sound.

The cars sound realistic and that's it. The story line and goals are not even clear cut with Undercover. You are supposed to infiltrate this gang of racers but you don't know where you are on the road to doing that. After the initial cut screens you are on the street. You can drive and get the police chasing you. If you evade you are given wheelman pointts and cash to be used to upgrade your cars later. There should be a wheelman point tracker to let you know how you're doing with those points you earn. Or let you know how close you are to earning the trust of the "organization".

While on the street the down button will highlight with a race invitation against those in the organization. You press it and are transported to the race without having to drive to the location.


I've gotten to level 6 and the races are not challening at all. In a few you are one-on-one and have to win by 1000 feet driving on a busy highway. In another one-on-one you have to stay ahead for one minute; the leader can go any route he wants. In group races it's been easy to dominate and win by 20 seconds or more. You sometimes get a bonus for winning big.

The graphics are lacking considering the PS3 is in HD. The city you drive in is pretty drab except for the cut scenes.

Update: I've gone all the way through now and am at 31% of going through a second time. The races get more challenging after level 10-12. The police get better. A few of the races near the bitter end are elite level.

One disappointment is you have about 30-40 cars you can buy but tier 3, 2, and 1 cars are locked for a very long duration. I'm 30% through and still am locked on tier 4 cars, which are incredibly slow. I did not upgrade my first car but did upgrade my Lotus Elise. I would recommend saving your earnings to buy cars and not upgrade much. First time around I wasn't able to buy my Tier 1 car McClaren F1, Burgatta until over 90% into it. The end wasn't nearly as good as taking out the second "crew" you infiltrate. I was expecting the kitchen sink and all. I got one lone challenge to win. It's an alright game, that only gets challenging the last 20%.
