WELCOME TO COLLEGE, GIRLS!

You've been waiting for this. Four years of freedom, parties, guys, and new experiences. You're bound to have a blast no matter what, but surviving college won't be easy. Are you ready for it?

Don't fret, ladies, this guide will tell you everything you need to know about getting through the best four years of your life. It's got the basics that your mom would want you to know, like how to do your laundry, how to manage your money, and how to survive your classes. But it'll also spill the juice on the things you care about, like how to make your shoebox of a dorm room into your own little castle, how to keep fit and stay healthy, how to throw a great party, and how to deal with guys and sex (two things that for some reason are difficult to handle separately).

It's a guide just for you girls, written by a girl who's been there.

A good guide to academics, but social pressures are the real challenge

This is a good book to guide you through the perils of academics and basic college issues. However, the sad fact of most American universities is that exams are easy and you will do great on them if you go to class, do the readings, and study. The greater challenge is dealing with social pressures and lifestyle decisions that can prevent you from making it to class and hinder your ability to study. It is when personal lives impede on academic lives that students begin to struggle. To prepare for college, students need to prepare for the overwhelming social madness they are going to be encountering on campus. I thus recommend you buy a book that deals with real college life like: COLLEGE LIFE EXTREME: Lies, Sex, Drugs and Violenceor Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities or Goat: A Memoir.

A girl's guide to college

Loved this practical guide to college life. I bought it for my daughter who will be a Freshman this Fall. Tips on decorating a dorm room, roommate survival tips, guys, dating and sex, even how to prepare during the summer. What sets this book apart from others is it is tailored for the challenges a girl faces in college - how I wish I'd had this book when I went to college! Some things are common sense (ex - don't take clothing that is hard to take care of), others are quite clever (ex - wait and do some of your college clothing shopping till you get to college. This way you can get a better sense of what people are wearing). Especially loved the bottom line pearls of wisdom highlighted in each topic and the 21 rules for making the most of college. As a parent I've tried to prepare my child to be successful wherever she goes, this book is an excellent tool towards that goal.

Eh. Best for People entering college, that are kinda naive.

Good info, but its more of life skills, I think this would be a great read for girls that have not had alot of tribulation in their lives. not so good for girls that have had to grow up before there time.

A Decent College Guide - Well Done

As a parent of multiple kids either in college, or about to enter college, I have done my best to try to find my kids books to help them be successful. I believe as a parent, I have an obligation to give my kids the best chance of academic success as possible.

Having said that, I have recently gone through a stack of college guides. I bought this one specifically for my daughter. I have to be honest, this book wasn't bad. The advice on alcohol and sex was first rate. Had the book had a wider audience than just girls, I think I would have given it four stars.
Solid advice all the way through.

However, as a parent, I believe in making multiple points of view available to my kids. College 101: The Book Your College Does Not Want You to Readwas definitely written from the male point of view. However, the advice was so damn candidate and brutally honest, I gave my daughter a copy of it. She laughed her butt off. She liked both books equally. Go figure.
