It’s not your age that’s causing half of those lines and crinkles. It’s your life.

Now, Amy Wechsler, MD shows you how to de-stress your skin and take years—years—off your face.

In 9 days.

Liking the way you look is vital to your health and happiness. But that’s not easy when life runs at warp speed—you’re simultaneously coping with ever-increasing demands: dependent kids, aging parents, or both; shopping; cooking; laundry; money pressures; and more, more, more. Good bet you’re super-stressed, tightly wound, sleep-deprived—and it shows.

Sure, but your thirties you’ve accumulated the first signs of normal aging: crow’s feet, a bit of safe, some broken capillaries. But stress aging—how the madness of modern life affects your physical features inside and out—is today’s biggest skin and health challenge.

Happily, stress aging is very reversible. And it takes only a few days. While you may never be able to totally turn off all the pressure (if only!), Dr. Wechsler has plenty of combination strategies—from her own favorite stress buster to her number one wrinkle reverser—to help you turn back the aging effects of tension and time. She’ll also teach you how to slow down and, to some degree, reverse the natural aging process. This is your guide to feeling, looking, and living young.

In her book, she shows you how to:

-Find out your SkinAge with a groundbreaking test that reveals how old (or young!) you really look
-Personalize a 9-day renewal plan that’s right for your face, wallet, and psyche
-Understand the different cosmetic procedures and products available today
-Adopt a mind-beauty regimen that will keep your skin—correction: your whole body—looking and feeling terrific—not just for now, but for life.

The mind-beauty connection is powerful and can dramatically affect how well—and how fast—you age. The rewards for soling it go far beyond a quick fix. They’re transforming. You’ll not only look better, you’ll also sleep better, feel better, and likely lose unwanted weight as you begin to feel healthier, less stress, and more alive.

Ready for a whole new you?

Open this book and let’s start!

Amy Wechsler, MD, is a dermatologist and a psychiatrist, one of only two doctors in the country who are board-certified in both specialties. Evidence of the mind-beauty connection walks into her office every day: “Premature aging and adult acne are the two most common skin problems I see, and stress and exhaustion are often at the bottom of both,” she says. Dr. Wechsler practices in New York City, where she lives with her husband and two kids. She is a member of the RealAge Scientific Advisory Board.

Helpful for the basics

This book provides excellent basic info. I like how it's broken down into really easy-to-read sections and covers a lot of ground from acne conditions to how to take better care of yourself and reduce stress. There are some simple tips that I just never thought about before such as using a different towel for your face and body after a shower. I like how she also doesn't push any specific brands (though she tells us briefly her personal favs) and is conscientious about people's budget--for example, not needing to buy the super expensive products all the time. She gives one great tip for using a type of oil you can buy in the grocery store for moisturizing the body's skin. At times I did feel I glossed over some of the paragraphs because they felt a little like "filler" for the book. Such as obvious advice about getting enough sleep, etc. But on the other hand, those tips ARE part of the beauty/mind connection. I also hoped that there would be more information about specific brands or chemicals/ingredients used in some of the potions to avoid, seeing that there is no regulation in the cosmetic industry but that is probably a whole other book altogether! Overall this is a solid beauty basics book--great for anyone who's struggled with skin for awhile or suddenly having problems with skin. I bet it would also make a nice gift for a teenager too.

The Mind-Beauty Connection by Amy Wechsler is a juicy find of a book, wether you are a woman of that-certain-age or just coming into womanhood. It is filled with information that can save your skin and save you money.

There are seemingly millions of beauty books out there -- many quite good. What makes The Mind-Beauty Connection different is the fact that information is being presented from the viewpoint of a board certified dermatologist and psychiatrist.

I am no stranger to stress and exhaustion. There is no question that it effects my thinking, but now I know how severely my mental state effects my appearance. That appearance is perceived by others in ways that could impact personal or social relationships. Neglecting yourself (or looking like you do) is clearly not the way to win-friends-and-influence-people. (And looking in the mirror and thinking that you're falling apart is no confidence-booster, either.)

The best part is that The Mind-Beauty Connection is not a veiled sales-pitch for some pricey line of cosmetics -- although Dr. Wechsler does give valid reasons to steer you away from the ultra-cheap stuff.

However, there is hope even for the penny-pincher! As you mother probably told you, the best lip balm is Vaseline.

This book is certainly worth purchasing and will be a valid source of beauty and health information for years to come.

I am a long time subscriber to Real Age and they often quote the doctor so I ordered the book. You can teach an old dog new tricks as I found several tips that I can use every day. And she explained in detail how everything was to be used. She also gives lots of good basic information.

The Mind-Beauty Connection is wonderful. I had already planned to buy this book when it came up on the Vine List. I only had hopes that it would provide some interesting and new information but it surpassed my expectations. It is great that actual products that can be found in your local stores and at a decent price were listed. I went right out and bought some of the products and have been loving going through the 9 day program. Every women or man needs to try these suggestions to make their skin look and feel better.

A Great Primer

This is a great primer for someone who wants to stop the aging process, but doesn't know where to start. The book kept me interested in reading more, looking forward to the next chapter. Dr. Wechsler is straight-forward in telling us what really works, versus what you should not waste your money on. I like that she names specific products in her recommendations.

She also teaches you to make specific life-style changes to reduce "stress-aging". You may know a lot of it already, but she will take you through a 9-day renewal process to reinforce good behavior. Yes, most of it is common sense, but what better program than one from a psychiatrist AND a dermatologist for optimum results?

The only issue I have is her recommendation for Cetaphil as one of her top cleanser choices. My wife says: "As a skin-care junkie, I do my best to avoid sodium laurel sulfate all over my body, so Cetaphil is a no-no!".
