Editorial Reviews
In 2001 an estimated 31,900 American men will die of prostate cancer, and more than 184,000 will be diagnosed with the disease. But now there is earlier diagnosis and better treatment as the medical establishment makes progress towards defeating this illness. This guide covers every aspect of prostate cancer, from potential causes, including diet, to tests for diagnosis, curative treatment and innovative means of controlling advanced stages of cancer. It also addresses the sensitive issues of impotence and incontinence after surgery, tells men what to look for in a surgeon, and features a section on alternative medicine.

Lots of useful information, and also lots of verbiage.
Does anyone care what surface-enhanced laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (I kid you not!!!) is? (page 159, 2007 edition)

It is truly stressful to go through 750 pages when you have a cancer to deal with. Publisher, please do the world a favor and edit this good book to below 250 pages.

Just diagnosed with Prostate C.

I bought two books from the local bookstore, this one was the best. It explained all of the technical information that was given to me as part of my biopsy results (Gleason scores, stages, all of the various tables, survivability stats ...). I got more out of it than the time that I spent with my urologist. Plenty of diagrams of the radical surgery I am looking at. Not much on Davinci system which seems to be the current rage. Anyway I found this book to be useful and worth the money.

Walsh's book is great but not perfect.

I have read five books on prostate cancer. This is the best of them. However, it is somewhat biased in favor of open surgery (as opposed to laparoscopic, and robotically assisted laparoscopic surgery). Also, some of his data are outdated, e.g., on p. 317 he quotes from a Mayo Clinic study without mentioning that the study was based on 1991-1993, i.e., pre-PSA-era, data, when men were diagnosed with more advanced disease than they are today. However, these are minor flaws in an otherwise excellent book.

I FOUND DR. WALSH'S GUIDE TO SURVING PROSTATE CANCER VERY INFORMATIVE.
THE ONLY NEGATIVE COMMENT I WOULD MAKE IS : THAT THE BOOK WAS A 2001 EDITION, WHICH IS QUITE OLD FOR MEDICAL INFORMATION.

This book was recommended by our doctor, as my husband had been diagnosted with prostate cancer. We found it to be the best information on the subject. It gave us a comprehensive explaination of the procedures and results to be expected. It filled in questions even the doctors did not cover.
