Summary: Right Wing "Coup d'tat"
Comment: I am so happy Mr Toobin wrote this book and so furious about the unfair biased review of "Vast
Conspiracy" by the New York Times. Their review is understandable since they were major conspirators
in the leaks of Ken Starr, since their writer Jeff Gerth is a complete tool of the right wing.I
guess I was naive to expect a fair review.

Mr Toobin tells us the facts as those of us who have
really searched legal web sites and the works of Gene Lyons and Joe Conason have long known them to
be. The right wing attempted to overthrow an elected President. They did so without regard for him
and withourt regard for the American people who elected him. These people had no regard for our
Constitution or for our Democracy. They gladly destabalized our country, the financial markets,
and, to an extent, the whole world for their own ends. What a disgrace there has been no
mainstream reporting from this perspective.

Summary: Toobin's tame tome still frightens the VRWC's media helpers
Comment: Considering that Toobin pulls an awful lot of his punches (he does not follow the Conway-Moody-Starr
connection to its logical conclusion - that Starr and the Paula Jones team illegally colluded, for
example), probably in a vain attempt to placate the Sally Quinn Starr-lover crowd, the book does
very well indeed.

I especially liked how Toobin depicted Isikoff as very obviously in bed with
Starr from the get-go. No wonder the Beltway media clowns want Toobin's head.

Next stop: Gene
and Joe's book!

Summary: It's the Democracy Stupid!
Comment: Toobin does an outstanding job of highlighting the forces behind the drive to impeach Clinton. He
does not spare Clinton any condemnation nor should he. Although in term of both sex and deception
Clinton's actions are not new to the White House, and by Kennedy and Johnson standards he's a
piker. This book is a must read for all democrats both large and small "d". Throughout the book
the reader is continually amazed at the wanton disdain displayed by the anti-Clinton forces for the
election process. Starr, Tripp, Goldberg as well as the Republicans on the judiciary committee
seem to have no concern the Clinton is the President because the American people elected him to
that office. What Toobin's work points out is how dangerously close a small band of zealots,
aided by less than stunning performances by Clinton and his attorneys, came to removing an elected
President on a case that ranged somewhere between marginal and absuridity and against the will of
the American people.

Summary: A Shakespearean Tragedy---All Are Punished!
Comment: Toobin's account of the Clinton-Lewinsky-Tripp-Starr-Goldberg-Congress, etc., scandal spares no one.
It amazed me to read the reviews calling this a 'left-wing' apologetic for Clinton's behavior.
They obviously did not read the book or allow any facts to enter into their thought processes.
The whole case is like a Shakespearean tragedy where there are no heroes and no good guys. All are
punished. Toobin's account, like no other demonstrates this. His almost savage wit describes the
almost pathetic machinations of people in all sides of this tragedy. This is the best book on the
subject I have ever read. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Clinton Defense by Bumper a distortion
Comment: Among the requirements of a republic is a spririted defense, yet the Clinton defense shall have an
impact not yet seen. Dale Bumper, on the Senate floor characterized the date September 8th,1787, at
the Constitutional Convention as a day to limit the realm of impeachment. Col. Mason wished that
day to expand the ambit of impeachment, realizing that the true fetus of Monarchy was an executive
who could not be easily impeached, why the sophistry ? Why would a Senator mislead the public and
distort our heritage ? Why redact Hamilton's words in the Federalist papers to specify that
political crimes, only, were the catalyst for impeachment, he did not say that, why the distortion
? Shall posterity be burdened by an obviation of Supreme Court decisions, Meritor v Vinson,
relegating executives in obserance of laws which are convenient ? A misdemeanor is an indictable
offense, or is it not ? Have we changed that boundary ? If the banner proclaimed in this book
read "that partisan particpation in prosecutorial efforts is invalid " which is the implication,
should then the prosecution evolve from those who are of kindred idealogies only ? If that be the
desired end, how then would a society be protected from any cabal ? Many legacies granted
children, by our daily efforts, shall bear the words , ' do as I say not as I do', the legacy of
Clinton may well be a perfidous executive, who engaging cabals non-political is dicovered un
impeachable due to our actions this day, what shall we from retirement advise ? 'Whenever a
society perishes there is always one condition present, they forgot where they came from'
(Sandburg). In distorting our history to defend the besieged executive what is our legacy ?
