Between these covers, teller and tales finally meet in a warm and joyful new collection that will bring delight to the hearts of readers the world over: James Herriot's Cat Stories. Here are Buster, the kitten who arrived on Christmas; Alfred, the cat at the sweet shop; little Emily, who lived with the gentleman tramp; and Olly and Ginny, the kittens who charmed readers when they first appeared at the Herriots' house in the worldwide bestseller Every Living Thing. And along with these come others, each story as memorable and heartwarming as the last, each told with that magical blend of gentle wit and human compassion that marks every word from James Herriot's pen.

Terrific little book of stories about cats and if you have ever owned such feline creatures who own you - you don't own them, you will recognise the common traits of all cats in these little stories.

Highly recommended, especially for the elderly who adore cats and will bring back memories of the characters their cats were.

James Herriot has a unique comforting writing style and relates his stories in such a way as to make them memorable from beginning to end. My mother who just returned from a month's stay in England brought me back this book as her best friend thought I would enjoy it. She was right. Each story is an invitation into a world of intriguing cats who need James Herriot's help. As a veterinarian he cares for numerous farm cats but also has the chance to save a cat who lived in a confectioners' shop who almost died from a hairball. There is a humerous story of one kitten who was adopted by a pig who had piglets and an fascinating story about a lost cat who loved to socialize anytime there were big groups of people present. Two of the best stories are about kittens who adopt James and his wife. They are fairly wild when they are first abandoned but with a little care and love become friendly and affectionate. If you love cats then I think you will find this book to be the type of book you want to read while snuggled up in your warm bed with the heating blanket on. This is a wonderful cozy read that I think you will really enjoy.

Goes quickly, but he writes well and if you're a cat owner, you'll really develop a rapport with the cat stories in here. Not just for "cat ladies" - my husband picked it up and couldn't put it down.

James Herriot writes of his veterinary experiences as no one else could. Full of humor, sometimes sadness but always spellbinding and interesting. I could not put this book down.
