This book is divided into two sections. The first section is dedicated to the history of the 6 day pedestrian races held during the 1800's - 1900's, with lots of interesting stories and facts. The second section is Tom's personal account of his rise through High School athletics, to his ultramarathon undertakings in later years. Again - there are lots of interesting and inspirational stories, along with common sense training tips and advice for the novice through to the experienced. It is a well written, easy to read book that doesn't get bogged down in 'techno talk'. Highly recommended.

Ed Dodd, one of the smartest men in the world who happens to not be given credit on this website, is not only a great mathematician but also an almost-Olympian cross country runner. While I have not actually read the book, a friend of mine found it fascinating. Anything Ed Dodd rights must be gold.
P.S.- Back those feelings up with calculations.
