Beware - the suggestions in this book can harm you

Got this book after just going through excision surgery and I am alarmed that so many women are reading it because they may harm themselves by taking all of her advice. I agree with the diet, but PLEASE be aware that some of the surgical therapy she discusses in this book is not accurate and can harm you. Many women with this disease do not have endo, because regular OBGYN's are not skilled in this area, so many times they say you have endo when you don't.
If you have true endo, you will have deep nodules that can attack your bowel, ovaries and uterus. Untrained professionals can't even see them on a sonogram. It is a serious disease and only about 7 surgeons in the country perform true excision surgery. I went to one of them and although expensive, he saved my life.
Please note that many women who get traditional laser vaporizing of endo have it come back even worse, or go through several surgeries over and over again. If endo is in your bowel, even hysterectomy will not cure it - you will still have pain.
Please note that although laser surgery may provide temporary relief, vaporizing endo with a laser does nothing but spread the particles around, causing new implants to eventually grow. Please be careful and diligent in your research and know that since 1952 it has been written that the only way to stop the spreading of this disease is to have it removed like it's a cancer. A skilled doctor will go in laproscopically and excise the pieces of endo until it is all gone.
Nutrition alone cannot cure "true endometriosis" please speak to one of the 7 endometriosis specialists in the country about this - one is in NY, one is in California and I believe Oregon and Georgia. I am so emphatic because I am afraid that women will harm themselves with bad advice - trust me, I went to holistic pain centers, many OBGYN's, was on the pill, went on a special diet, etc. and all of that time the endo was invading every organ inside of me. Time is important when fighting this disease! I'm happy for the women it helped, but they most likely had mis-diagnosed endometriosis. I found this book to be very technical and a hard read. I was hoping for a quick reference book to access when I wanted to look something up regarding what to eat. There are a few recipes but they seem to oppose what I have read about the diet for endometriosis. Many of the recipes contain eggs and other dairy products which are supposed to be pro-inflammatory.

The general scientific nutritional advice is good, but it does seem to relate to general health problems. A good book if you want to find out about nutrition.

Must read for endo sufferers

I bought this book shortly after being diagnosed with endometriosis and having a lap to confirm stage III. Prior to my dx, I had been trying to concieve for 2 yrs and tried acupuncture, herbs, supplements and various types of fertility diets. This book explains the condition in almost academic detail, but that's what I like about it. It takes awhile to get through and I started by reading the most relevant chapters first on the condition and how it effects the reproductive system. Then I went straight to implementing the diet recommendations. I followed the diet suggestions that I felt best applied to my symptoms and goal of getting pregnant and of course preventing the return of the endo. I felt great on the diet but it's hard to say if it was the surgery or the diet or a combination of both but I was pregnant 2 months later. That pregnancy ended in miscarriage but I am back on the diet and actually going back to read some of the chapters I skipped over. I still think it's the best resource book you can own on endometriosis and recommend to everyone I know suffering from this mysterious and painful condition.

Great advice, hard to change your life that much. Guess I am not hurting that bad or I would change my diet. lol!

If you buy just one book about Endometriosis, please let it be this one! I have read a lot of books about this disease and this is still the one that goes into the most detail and the best explanation of the disease process. Don't be fooled by the title....this isn't just a nice little cookbook. This is a scientific study into the relationship between Endometriosis and the food, chemicals and substances we consume, and why so many of them are inflammatory to this condition. I found this work to be absolutely fascinating and invaluable.

In fact I was so inspired by it that I flew to London to meet with the author myself for an apoointment and really had a wonderful experience. I found Dian to be extremely compassionate and knowledgeable, and she seemed to be able to finish my sentences before I did! What a great insight this lady has. Because of her I discovered that I had many food intolerances I didn't know I had and cutting them out has made a huge difference to my pain and energy levels. Thank you Dian! This book should be renamed The Endometriosis Bible, because if you are serious about taking control of your disease process, you need to buy this book!
